Just had an email about a new steak house between the new Walmart and Nanhu park near the Wuxiang International Hotel. Would be interested to read of any opinions since it sounds right up my street-coming over on 10 June-see some of you old reprobates then!!

will be there until 15 July,but will be going to HK for a few days. Graham knows where we live so perhaps you will be able to come and see us while we are there and share a glass or two.

Sounds good Peter.Look forward to it.By the way are you going as a tourist or visiting relatives?If you are going as visiting relatives did you get an Authorisation invitation letter so you could get your visa?If so did you apply for your visa before or after the 24th April?
Be interesting to know.Wu Ming has to get this letter from the Foreign Affairs Office in Nanning,a copy of her ID card,a copy of her marriage book and all stamped with the friendly RED STAMP of China and then scan them to me to get my visa.As a tourist you not need all this.Just a confirmed booking of the hotel you are staying in.

Yes,Dave-I know the situation! Had to get a "letter of invitation" from my daughter and a copy of her passport. Mu visa agency says that now they can apply for visas. Ironically,my wife is now a British citizen and also has to get a visa,but being born in China does not need to "prove kinship". Because we are staying for 35 days will need double entry visas and go to HK for a few days to satisfy the "30 day maximum" rule, and also,since the visas are now for only 2 months cannot apply until next week because not coming home until 15 July. As you say, what a rigmarole!!

Tried the new steakhouse last night. It is next to the Wuxiang Hotel, near 5 Elephants Square. Just called the Steak House. Very nice restaurant.

The format is either you pay 48 rmb and have the buffet meal, or you can order a-la-carte and the buffet is complimentary. So if you order a steak for 58 rmb you are paying very little for the steak. You also get soup when you order from the menu. Jiaping and Xiao Lei had beef steaks and they were very good. I had pork steak (even more expensive) and it was not very good, a bit tough and gristly. All the meat is cooked by the chefs over a barbeque as you order it.

The buffet was excellent and chefs were preparing sushi food as well as doing the BBQ.

I liked it better than the Brazilian BBQ with which most of us will be familiar.

We shopped in 5 Elephants Square before we dined. I've heard this area called the new centre of Nanning and I don't go there very often. It is a very nice part of town and I'll definitely go again.

How did you get on with the visa issue?I have sent mine and he reckoned I will get the 60 day visa on a single entry.As I am going to be there for 65 days I will have to get an extension at the local police station.That's what he said to me.Have to wait and see.
