Dental work can be state of the art here and a fraction of Western prices, and usually no waiting for an appointment. They will be happy to examine you and give you a quotation for the work, no obligation to accept.
Guangxi Medical University hospital has a state of the art dental hospital. My daughter did some of her nursing training there last month so I'll get some details for you. She is in bed at the moment because she is working early tomorrow morning. You'll certainly find it cheaper than flying to Thailand. I'm afraid the dentists are not big on privacy, so you might get an audience if you have the work done here.
Don't know your route home, but if you have a return ticket from China you'll need to be aware of the visa position. You could return from Thailand and transit through an airport in China, but not stay unless you had a valid unused entry on your visa. Franco will know about this.
V-Touch Cafe on Xinmin Lu is a great place to meet Westerners. Saturday mornings, buffet breakfast, 9 am until about 12 noon, 23 rmb per person. Or Wednesday evenings 6 pm until about 10:30, buffet meal, about same price but includes free beer and wine until 9:30 pm.
