One of the things i have overlooked and perhaps others have too is the value of a good Taxi driver when in parts of China. In Beijing i had one day left before i flew out (pre- meeting my wife), i thought i would catch a taxi from my hotel into Tianamen Square to just wander around and look at the people and maybe line up to check out the chairman lying in state. Anyway the driver i got was very good, he spoke pretty good English, had an upmarket type taxi (an optioned Sonata) which was clean ...

Great wall at Badaling

Silk factory

When i was in Beijing in 2006 (alone but that is another story) i took a few tours using Gray's, now i must say they give good service and a good lunch and like most tour companies they stop for the obligatory "shopping trip". The silk factory is interesting and the display of how they make doona's is quite informative, they then try and sell you silk pillows, sheets, and other manchester. What they don't tell you as you are left to wander past rows of sheets etc that the clothing and ...
