Hi everyone, I'm from Victoria Australia, and have just joined this site. I have been married to a Chinese girl for 2 years now and they, ( plus an 18 y.o. daughter) have been in Australia for a little over 1 year and have settled in very well. We have Chinese family living in Nanning but the family comes and most live in Guilin. Guilin is where we are purchasing an apartment.

I'd like to say hello to you all and I'm looking forward to talking to you all in the future.

Beihai - Is it any different from other Large town or City?

My own experiences whilst travelling into and through Beihai have in the main been good.

Yes, of course Beihai does have issues, just like any other town or city.

First we need to understand a little of it's history, I mean it's more recent development history - Rapid development, faster than Nanning, I would not mind betting probably one of the fastest in China.

In the last 15 years, Beihai has gone from large fishing village ...

If no letter of invite you must have a paid hotel booking letter.

That was the Chinese Consular in Melbourne ruling and also on the Australian Chinese Web Site.

NEW CHINESE VISA APPLICATION CENTRE http://www.visaforchina.org.uk/visaen/visaView.html?method=index

The Chinese Embassy are now stating that a new procedure for Chinese visas will start sometime in June 2008.

This will mainly affect those that apply for a Chinese visa in person, not sure how this will impact on Agents applications.

It appears that fee's wil be increased for American citizens but the UK fee's will remain as listed.

Just thought I ought to let everybody know that we got 60 day 3 month single entry visas from the UK Chinese Embassy without too much bother-simply got a letter of invitation from our daughter and a photocopy of her passport to go with the applications. It may be that because (i) my wife is Chinese, and (ii) we have been many times before that we found it relatively easy, but my visa company (CIBT) told me not to expect any difficulty.

Hope this will encourage other potential travellers!

It appears however that now the Chinese Embassy in the UK is restricting visas to 2 months instead of 3 with a maximum stay of 30 days. The 2 months is not a problem but the 30 days limit is!

Our options seem to be either (i) change our inbound flights to 10 July or (ii) get a double entry visa, leave China, and return.

Both options involve further expenditure and inconvenience.

Anybody any other suggestions??

For those now going to China you will now be required to provide proof of the date and details of your flights to China , and also of your hotel accommodation there when applying for a visa, I got the impression from 5 star travel that this has something to do with the Beijing Olympics . I'm on my way to Guangzhou on 30th April .
